Northants Mercury & Citizen (defunct)
It was formed at the end of August 2008 by the merger of three of Northamptonshire Newspapers’ (part of the Johnston Press empire of regional newspaper publishers) titles: the Wellingborough & Rushden Mercury & Citizen, the Kettering Mercury & Citizen and the Corby Mercury & Citizen.
It had neither editorial offices nor a website of its own; both were shared with Northamptonshire Newspapers’ paid-for weekly newspaper for the area, the Kettering-based Northamptonshire Telegraph.
It came out on Thursdays.
In 2011 it was briefly renamed simply the Northants Citizen. (The parallel freesheet for southern and western Northamptonshire, the Northampton Mercury & Citizen, became the Northampton Mercury at the same time.) It resumed its original name before finally closing in the second half of 2012.
