All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Washington Star

The Washington Star is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the New Town of Washington on Wearside.

It’s published by Sunderland-based Northeast Press, part of the UK-wide regional newspaper giants Johnston Press.

It was launched in 1990 as part of a companion series of Star freesheets for the Sunderland Echo, covering the Tyne & Wear metropolitan area south of the Tyne and the coastal towns of County Durham. However, in May 2012 the Star series (which also includes the Peterlee Star and the Seaham & Houghton Star) was relaunched as three separate paid-for titles, each with its own website.

The editorial offices are at Northeast Press’s headquarters in Sunderland.

It comes out on Thursdays.
