Sittingbourne Extra (defunct)
The Sittingbourne Extra was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the town of Sittingbourne in the Swale District in northern Kent.
It was published by the KM Group (formerly the Kent Messenger Group) and was a companion to their paid-for title for the area, the Sittingbourne Messenger (which in turn is a local edition of the Kent Messenger); the Extra shared the Messenger‘s website and editorial offices in Strood.
It was launched in 1987 as the Sittingbourne Extra incorporating the Swale Weekender and Sittingbourne News. Between 1992 and 2002 it was simply the Sittingbourne edition of an overall Extra title.
It came out on Fridays.
It ceased publication in December 2011 and was replaced by a paid-for title, the Sittingbourne News Extra. Archived e-editions are still available online at the dedicated website:
