Bridgwater & Burnham Times (defunct)

The Bridgwater & Burnham Times was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to homes in the market town of Bridgwater, the coastal town of Burnham-on-Sea, and their respective neighbouring towns of North Petherton and Highbridge as well as nearby villages in the District of Sedgemoor in Somerset.

It was created in January 2010 by the merger of the former Bridgwater Times (first published in 1846) and Burnham & Highbridge Times – but there were still separate Bridgwater and Burnham editions up until the paper’s closure. It was published by Mid Somerset News & Media, a branch of the Daily Mail & General Trust‘s regional newspaper publishing division, Northcliffe Media. The editorial offices were in Wells.

It had no website of its own; like all Northcliffe’s newspapers for Somerset, its presence was through the joint thisissomerset.co.uk website.

It came out on Thursdays.

It closed at the end of November 2011. Mid Somerset News & Media cited the more challenging economics of producing free newspapers as the reason for the closure.
