Cannock Chase Post (defunct)

The Cannock Chase Post was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper in two editions for central southern Staffordshire, delivered to homes in Cannock, Great Wyrley, Hednesford, Penkridge and Cheslyn Hay.

It was founded in 1979 as the Cannock edition of the Chase Post. It was published by Trinity Mirror Midlands and was one of two editions of their Cannock Chase & Burntwood Post series, the other predictably being the Burntwood Post. Both titles shared editorial offices in Cannock.

It was highly regarded for the quality of much of its copy under its last editor Mike Lockley, who disregarded the normal constraints of reporting style in favour of more vivid prose in his 25 years in the job.

A companion title for Lichfield, the Lichfield Post, and its sub-edition the Rugeley Post, closed in July 2009.

It came out on Thursdays.

Trinity Mirror Midlands announced on 14 November 2011 that the Chase Post series would be closed as part of an efficiency savings process. The final issue appeared three days later. The URL below has now been listed for sale.
