Champion Media Group
The Champion Media Group is the trading name of an independent publishing house that produces the Champion series of freesheet newspapers distributed across the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in northern Merseyside and the Borough of West Lancashire.
History
Waypride Limited, the company behind Champion Newspapers, was founded in January 1994 in Southport and launched its first newspaper, the Southport Champion, that same month. Editions for Formby, Ormskirk and Skelmersdale followed, with the Aintree & Maghull Champion joining them in January 2009 and the Crosby & Litherland Champion a year later.
Recent developments
The company has continued to expand, with the launch of the Bootle Champion in January 2012 and the Anfield & Walton Champion in May 2013.
