Independent Print Limited was set up as a company in February 2010 by Russian businessman Aleksandr Lebedev to manage his soon-to-be-acquired newspapers The Independent and The Independent on Sunday, which he had been negotiating to buy from Independent News & Media since late 2009. The purchase (for one pound, plus £9.25 million over the next ten months was announced as being finalised on 3 May 2010.

It’s chaired by Aleksandr Lebedev’s son Evgeny and is based in Knightsbridge, London, in the same building that houses the Daily Mail & General Trust – Northcliffe House.

It launched a new compact title, i, in October 2010.
