Houghton Star (defunct)

The Houghton Star was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes in and around the Wearside town of Houghton-le-Spring in the City of Sunderland, including nearby Hetton-le-Hole, Low Moorsley, East Rainton and West Rainton.

It was published by Northeast Press, part of the Johnston Newspapers Northeast division of Johnston Press; they also publish the paid daily tabloid the Sunderland Echo, with which it shared editorial offices in Sunderland. It formed part of a two-title group together with the Seaham Star, which was the main title in the group; the group formed part of Northeast Press’s series of Star titles for the North-East coast of England from the mouth of the Tees to the mouth of the Tyne.

The Star had no website of its own; the link below is to the Echo’s website.

It came out on Thursdays.

In 2008 it merged with the Seaham Star to form the Seaham & Houghton Star.
