Hertford & Ware Scene (defunct)

The Hertford & Ware Scene was a short-lived weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the towns of Hertford and Ware and surrounding villages in eastern Hertfordshire.

It was launched in September 2010 by Archant Herts & Cambs as a “news-zine”, replacing the earlier East Herts Herald.

It was one of a series of four Scene publications which claimed to fuse “the excitement and thrust of a newspaper with the glamour and comfort of a magazine”. The other editions covered Broxbourne, Harlow and Bishop’s Stortford. All were distributed by brand-to-hand and pickup points (including parish councils) as well as direct to households.

The editorial offices were at Archant Herts & Cambs’s head offices in Stevenage and were shared with the other editions, as was the website; the link below was to the Hertford and Ware news pages.

It came out on Thursdays.

The series ceased publication in June 2011. The closure was blamed on market conditions and increasing business costs. Archived e-editions were available free on the website, but that’s now been taken down.
