All about the United Kingdom’s national, regional and local press

Whitby Gazette

The Whitby Gazette is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the Yorkshire town of Whitby, as well as the Cleveland coast up as far as Redcar and Eskdale as far inland as Castleton.

It was founded in 1854 by Ralph Horne as the Whitby Gazette: Horne’s List of Visitors, etc. It’s published by Yorkshire Regional Newspapers Ltd, part of Johnston Press. Tthe website used to have local sites for some of the communities covered by the print version (Esk Valley, Sleights, Staithes & Hinderwell and Robin Hood’s Bay), but these have now been dropped.

Between 2000 and 2011 it was one of the relatively few twice-weekly newspapers published in the United Kingdom, appearing on Tuesdays and Fridays. However, the Tuesday edition was dropped with a relaunch in January 2012.
