View from Portland

The View from Portland is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed via pickup points including supermarkets, garages, corner shops, pubs and community centres around the Portland area on Dorset’s southern tip.

It was founded in August 2011 as one in a series of View from… community papers for western Dorset and southern Somerset that were published by View from Publishing Ltd (a subsidiary of Lyme Media & Events) up until April 2012, when they were taken over by Sir Ray Tindle’s family-owned independent newspaper company, Tindle Newspapers. They’re now published by Devon, Dorset and Somerset Series of Newspapers Ltd, a new subsidiary of Tindle Newspapers. Their founder, Philip Evans, became managing director of the new company, which has also taken over publication of Tindle’s existing Pulman’s View from… series based in Axminster.

The editorial offices are in Lyme Regis and are shared with the rest of the series. Most of its content is shared with the View from Weymouth.

An e-edition’s available on the website, along with archives going back to the paper’s launch. However, there’s no dedicated section for Portland news on the website; the link below is to the Weymouth news pages, which incorporate news from Portland.

It comes out on Thursdays.
