Oxford Star (defunct)

The Oxford Star was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the city of Oxford and surrounding parts of Oxfordshire, taking in the towns of Abingdon, Didcot, Grove, Wantage, Witney, Bicester and Kidlington.

It was founded in June 1976. It was published by Newsquest (Oxfordshire), who also publish the evening tabloid the Oxford Mail and the paid-for weekly tabloid The Oxford Times.

It had no website of its own; although it had its own URL, that redirects to the Mail‘s website. Likewise, the editorial offices were centralised at Newsquest (Oxfordshire)’s headquarters in Oxford.

Over a third of its print run was distributed through supermarkets and convenience stores rather than direct to households.

It came out on Thursdays.

It ceased publication in mid-June 2013, shortly before its stablemate the Mail announced a price rise.
