Sittingbourne News Extra

The Sittingbourne News Extra is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the town of Sittingbourne and the Borough of Swale in northern Kent.

It’s published by the KM Group (formerly the Kent Messenger Group) and was launched in December 2011 as a midweek companion to their other paid-for title for the area, the Sittingbourne Messenger (which in turn is a local edition of the Kent Messenger). The launch followed the collapse of a deal to buy Kent Regional News and Media from the Daily Mail & General Trust after the Competition Commission made it clear they would want to examine the deal; KRNM thereupon closed their own Sittingbourne-based newspaper, the East Kent Gazette.

The News Extra has a purely local focus, whereas the Messenger provides news more widely from across central and western Kent.

The News Extra shares the Messenger‘s website. The editorial offices are in Sheerness.

It comes out on Wednesdays. It’s also available online as an e-edition, by paid subscription.
