Harrogate Advertiser

The Harrogate Advertiser is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold primarily in the town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, although some copies are distributed elsewhere, including through Ripon, Knaresborough, Pateley Bridge, Wetherby and North Leeds.

It was founded in 1836 by the unlikely-named Pickersgill Palliser as the Harrogate Advertiser and Weekly List of Visitors – the list being a “who’s who” of fashionable visitors to the spa town. It adopted its existing title in 1918.

It’s published by the Ackrill Media Group, a division of nationwide publishers of regional newspapers Johnston Press, and is the lead title in a series of paid-for newspapers for the A1 corridor through North Yorkshire that also includes the Knaresborough Post, the Nidderdale Herald, the Ripon Gazette and the Wetherby News.

A freesheet companion, the Harrogate Herald, ceased publication in 2011.

It used to come out on Fridays, but switched to Thursday publication – and moved from its traditional broadsheet format – as of 31 May 2012.
