County Down Spectator
The County Down Spectator (“and Ulster Standard“, according to its masthead) is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in County Down to the north of a line from Belfast to Millisle, taking in the towns of Bangor, Holywood, Donaghadee, the “Gold Coast” of Helen’s Bay and Crawfordsburn, Dundonald and Conlig.
It was founded in 1904. It’s published by Spectator Newspapers, who also produce the Newtownards Chronicle.
A local sub-edition, the Newtownards Spectator, is sold in the town of Newtownards alongside the Chronicle.
An Ards edition was launched in June 2011 and renamed the Donaghadee & Ards edition a couple of weeks later. At the same time, the Spectator dropped its broadsheet format and became a tabloid.
A new website was launched in late September 2013, replacing the old site at spectatornewspapers.co.uk.
It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s also on sale through the website.
