Stretford & Urmston Messenger

The Stretford & Urmston Messenger is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes in the towns of Stretford, Urmston and Davyhulme in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester.

It was founded in 1974. It’s published by Newsquest (North West). The offices moved from Sale to Stretford in 2013.

It’s part of a two-title series for Trafford; the other one is the Sale & Altrincham Messenger. Both share a common website, with sections for local news for each of the localities covered in the two papers. There’s also a monthly companion, the Messenger Extra, which covers the entire Metropolitan Borough.

Although it’s a freesheet, a tiny number of copies (about one per cent of the total print run) are sold through the news trade.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s also available free on the website.
