Royston Weekly News

The Royston Weekly News is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper issued to homes in the town of Royston at the northernmost point of Hertfordshire, as well as the surrounding parts of both Hertfordshire and neighbouring Cambridgeshire (including the small towns of Bassingbourn and Melbourn).

It’s published by Cambridge Newspapers Ltd, part of Iliffe News & Media (formerly owned by the Yattendon Investment Trust, but part of the Local World group since the end of 2012), from editorial offices which were in Royston until 2013 but have now moved to Saffron Walden. It’s one of a range of weekly freesheet newspapers distributed by Cambridge Newspapers in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex and Suffolk.

It was founded in 1889. It spent the years from 1911 to 1925 as the Royston edition of various other newspapers: first the Saffron Walden Weekly News, then the Cambridgeshire Weekly News and Express from 1913, and finally the Cambridge Independent Press from 1917. It dsappeared altogether in 1962 before being resurrected some time in the 1980s.

It has no website of its own; the link below redirects to the Royston news pages of Local World’s paid-for daily title for the area, the Cambridge News.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s also available free on the website.
