Thanet Extra
The Thanet Extra is a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes and through pickup points and brand-to-hand distribution in the Isle of Thanet area in north-eastern Kent, including the towns of Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs and the smaller town of Minster.
Founded in 1981, it’s the oldest freesheet published by the independent KM Group (formerly the Kent Messenger Group), based in Aylesford near Maidstone. The editorial offices are in Cliftonville in Margate.
For a time (between 1988 and 1992) it split into three separate titles, the Margate Extra, Ramsgate Extra and Broadstairs Extra. After the three were reunited it went through two subsequent name changes, Extra (Thanet) and, in 2002, Isle of Thanet Extra, before reverting to its original title in 2009.
It comes out on Fridays. A (free) e-edition is also available both via the website and on its own URL:
