Cynon Valley Leader
It was founded in 1902 as The Aberdare Leader. In 1968 it was renamed the Aberdare & Mountain Ash Leader, only to split into two separate titles – the Aberdare Leader and the Mountain Ash Leader – three years later. The two were reunited in 1991 under the present title.
It’s published by Media Wales, part of the Trinity Mirror empire. In common with the rest of the Trinity Mirror newspapers for South Wales, it has no website of its own, but a section within the WalesOnline.co.uk website.
Its office in Aberdare closed in November 2008; the editorial offices moved first to Merthyr Tydfil (home of the Merthyr Express, the Rhymney Valley Express and the Gwent Gazette), then to Pontypridd, where they shared with the Pontypridd & Llantrisant Observer and the Rhondda Leader. In January 2014 Media Wales announced that all the Celtic Weekly Newspapers titles would be moving to their head office in Cardiff; the Leader‘s move came at the end of February.
It comes out on Thursdays.
