Derby Express (defunct)

The Derby Express was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper distributed to homes in and around the city of Derby and neighbouring small towns and villages in southern Derbyshire, including Mickleover, Ockbrook and Borrowash.

It was founded in 1986. It was published by the Derby Telegraph Media Group, a branch of the Northcliffe Media regional newspaper publishing division of the Daily Mail & General Trust. It was a companion of the Derby Telegraph, whose editorial offices it shared.

It was also the lead title in a series of weekly freesheets for southern and central Derbyshire; at the time of its closure, the other titles (which were considerably smaller in circulation) were:

They all came out on Thursdays.

Its web presence was on Northcliffe’s thisisderbyshire.co.uk website, which used to be very much the Telegraph‘s website but is now much more of a local portal for which Northcliffe’s newspapers supply (most of) the news.

It closed in March 2012 with the launch of a new single-edition companion to the Telegraph, the Telegraph Lite.
