Evesham Journal

The Evesham Journal is one of a series of three predominantly freesheet weekly tabloid newspapers distributed to households in the market town of Evesham and more widely to villages and towns in south-eastern Worcestershire (Broadway), northern Gloucestershire (Tewkesbury, Bishop’s Cleeve, Winchcombe) and southern Warwickshire (Bidford-on-Avon, Shipston-on-Stour, Stratford).

It was founded in 1860 as The Evesham Journal, and General Advertiser for Pershore, Alcester, etc. In 1885 it became The Evesham Journal, and Four Shires Advertiser, but became simply the Evesham Journal in 1984. In 1967 it incorporated The Tewkesbury Register, and Agricultural Gazette (founded in 1858) as its Tewkesbury edition; the Evesham Standard (founded in 1888 as The Evesham Standard and South-West Midland Observer) followed in 1985.

It’s published by Newsquest (Midlands South). The editorial offices were in Evesham until recently but moved in 2011 to Worcester along with the other titles in the series, the Cotswold Journal and the Pershore Journal. (The Pershore Journal appears to have ceased publication; the Evesham Journal has borne the tagline “Also covering Pershore and surrounding areas” since February 2013.)

Although it’s predominantly a freesheet, several thousand copies are sold through the news trade.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s also available free through the website, although you have to provide your email address to view it.
