Exeter Times (defunct)

The Exeter Times was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper delivered to households in the city of Exeter, the historic county town of Devon, and neighbouring villages in the district.

It was originally launched in 1984 as the Exeter Leader, became simply The Leader in 1990, reverted to the original title in 1998 and took on its final name in 2005.

It was published by the South West Media Group, a branch of the Daily Mail & General Trust‘s regional newspaper publishing branch, Northcliffe Media. It was a companion to their paid-for weekly title for the city and neighbouring parts of eastern and central Devon, the Express & Echo, and shared editorial offices in Exeter with it. It had its web presence through Northcliffe’s portal site for the area, thisisexeter.co.uk, to which the two newspapers contributed news.

It came out on Thursdays. E-editions were also available, although not linked to from the website.

It ceased publication with the Express & Echo‘s switch from daily to weekly publication at the beginning of September 2011.
