Sevenoaks Chronicle

The Sevenoaks Chronicle is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the town of Sevenoaks and much of north-western Kent; its circulation area takes in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Edenbridge, Westerham and Malling.

It’s published by the Courier Media Group, part of Northcliffe South East, which was itself part of the Daily Mail & General Trust but became part of the new Local World media group in late 2012. The editorial offices are in Sevenoaks.

There are two local sub-editions: the Westerham Chronicle and the Malling Chronicle. Until March 2009 there was also a freesheet companion, the West Kent Focus.

At the time of its launch in 1881 as the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser it faced competition from no less than three rival newspapers, the Sevenoaks Express, the Sevenoaks Free Press and the Sevenoaks Herald. It’s now the only paid-for Sevenoaks title. It became the Sevenoaks Chronicle, Westerham Courier and Kentish Advertiser in 1916, and adopted its present title in 1971.

Its web presence was formerly through Northcliffe’s thisiskent.co.uk website, which since 2011 has been a portal website for Kent to which Northcliffe’s newspapers merely contribute news. However, Local World decided in early 2013 to give all former Northcliffe titles their own “publisher-branded” websites; the Chronicle‘s is at the URL given below.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s available online by paid subscription.
