Retford Times

The Retford Times is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the towns of Retford (or East Retford) in Nottinghamshire’s Bassetlaw District and Gainsborough in neighbouring Lincolnshire.

It was founded in 1869 as the Retford and Gainsborough Times and Worksop Weekly News, then became the Retford and Gainsborough Times and Worksop & Newark Weekly News in 1880. From 1901 it was the Retford, Gainsborough & Worksop Times and Newark & Mansfield Weekly News. then in 1967 it dropped the and Newark & Mansfield Weekly News. Worksop disappeared from the masthead in 2011; Gainsborough followed in 2013.

It’s published by Lincolnshire Media, part of the Local World media group since the Daily Mail & General Trust divested its Northcliffe Media regional newspaper publishing division into Local World in November 2012. The editorial offices are in Retford.

Until the spring of 2013 the website was Northcliffe’s portal site for the area, retfordpeople.co.uk, for which the Times merely provided the news. However, Local World then announced that they would be rolling out new “publisher-branded” websites for their newspapers.

It comes out on Thursdays.
