Seaham & Houghton Star

The Seaham & Houghton Star is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the towns of Seaham in County Durham and Houghton-le-Spring in the City of Sunderland.

It’s published by Northeast Press, part of the Johnston Newspapers Northeast division of Johnston Press; they also publish the daily paid-for tabloid the Sunderland Echo, whose editorial offices in Sunderland the Star shares.

It was founded in 2008 as a freesheet and replaced a two-title Star group comprised of the Seaham Star and the Houghton Star; it was (and is) also part of a series of Star weekly tabloids for the North-East coast of England from the mouth of the Tees to the mouth of the Tyne.

In May 2012 Northeast Press relaunched the Star series (which also includes the Peterlee Star and the Washington Star) as three separate paid-for titles, each with its own website. Previously the series had shared the Echo’s website.

It comes out on Thursdays.
