Blackburn Citizen (defunct)
The Blackburn Citizen (in full, The Blackburn, Darwen and Hyndburn Citizen) was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the unitary authority of Blackburn and Darwen and the Borough of Hyndburn (including the main town, Accrington) in East Lancashire.
It was founded in 1978. It was published by Newsquest (North West) and was one in a series of Citizen weekly freesheet companions to their paid-for evening title for East Lancashire, the Lancashire Telegraph. The editorial offices of the Citizen series were collocated with the Telegraph‘s in Blackburn.
Most of the distribution was direct to homes, but a fair-sized chunk of the print run was available from pickup points in supermarkets.
It came out on Wednesdays.
It was merged with the Burnley & Pendle Citizen in April 2013 to form a single title, The Citizen. Archived e-editions are still available free from the website.
