Wiltshire Star

The Wiltshire Star is a weekly freesheet newspaper in tabloid format, delivered to homes across much of northern and western Wiltshire including the towns of Calne, Chippenham, Devizes, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury.

It was launched in 1981 as the Trowbridge Star. From 1987 to 1992 it was renamed the West & North Wilts Star; it then spent just over a year as the Trowbridge, Bradford & Melksham Star before reverting to its original title in August 1993. In March 1994 it became simply the Star, then almost reverted to a former title in 2002 when it was renamed the West & North Wiltshire Star. It’s been the Wiltshire Star since 2005.

It’s published by Newsquest (Wiltshire) and is a sister newspaper of the paid-for Wiltshire Times, with which it shares editorial offices in Trowbridge.

It has no website of its own; the URL below used to redirect to the Times‘s website, but now takes visitors to a general website for Newsquest’s Wiltshire newspapers.

It claims to be the most widely read of any newspaper in its distribution area. Since 2009 there have been two editions: North and West. A small number of each edition (about 10 per cent of the print run) is distributed via pickup points in supermarkets.

It comes out on Thursdays.
