Kingsbridge & Salcombe Gazette

The Kingsbridge & Salcombe Gazette is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the towns of Kingsbridge and Salcombe and nearby villages in the South Hams District of South Devon.

It’s published by Kingsbridge-based South Hams Newspapers, a division of the Tindle Newspapers publishing group, and is part of a wider South Hams Gazette series (in fact, the full title in the masthead is the Kingsbridge & Salcombe Gazette & South Hams Gazette). The editorial offices are collocated with the company.

It was launched in 1984, but its history goes back much further than that – it’s the result of the amalgamation of three earlier newspapers:

  • The Kingsbridge Gazette, founded in 1855 as a monthly newspaper but subsequently published as a weekly;
  • The South Devon Advertiser and Agricultural Times, established in 1877; renamed the South Devon Gazette and Kingsbridge Times in 1881; renamed the South Hams Gazette in 1974;
  • The Salcombe Gazette, founded in 1910.

It comes out on Fridays. An e-edition’s also available by paid subscription.
