Weekender (defunct)

The Weekender – formerly the Torbay Weekender; it dropped the “Torbay” in 2010 after absorbing the Newton Abbot & District Weekender sub-edition – was a weekly freesheet tabloid newspaper for the Devon Riviera around Torbay, taking in the three towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and the rest of the coastal strip between the mouths of the Teign and the Dart.

It was launched in 1981. It was published by the Plymouth-based South West Media Group, a branch of the Daily Mail & General Trust‘s regional newspaper publishing wing, Northcliffe Media. It was a companion to the paid-for weekly tabloid the Herald Express, whose editorial offices it shared.

It had no website of its own; the link below is to Northcliffe’s thisissouthdevon.co.uk website.

It came out on Thursdays.

It ceased publication in 2011.
