Midweek Extra (defunct)
The Midweek Extra was a weekly freesheet tabloid delivered to homes across the Metropolitan Borough of the City of Wakefield in eastern West Yorkshire, including the towns of Pontefract, Castleford, Normanton, Ossett, Horbury, Hemsworth and South Elmsall.
It was published by the Yorkshire Weekly Newspaper Group, part of the North division of nationwide publishers of regional and local newspapers Johnston Press, and was founded in 2009 by the amalgamation of three earlier freesheets: the Wakefield Extra, the Pontefract & Castleford Extra and the Ossett & Horbury Observer. The editorial offices were collocated with those of the Wakefield Express in Wakefield.
As of 2010 there were four editions:
- Wakefield
- Pontefract & Castleford
- Ossett & Horbury
- Hemsworth
None of them had a website of its own; the links below are to the websites of YWNG’s paid-for titles for the respective areas.
It came out on Wednesdays. It appears to have closed in late 2010.
