Newtownards Chronicle

The Newtownards Chronicle (formally, it’s the Newtownards Chronicle & Co. Down Observer; colloquially, it’s the Ards Chronicle) is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the town of Newtownards and northern County Down either side of Strangford Lough, including the entire Ards Peninsula and the towns of Dundonald and Ballynahinch.

It was founded in 1873 by William Henry and is the only paid-for weekly local title for the Ards. It’s published by Spectator Newspapers, who also produce the County Down Spectator (and, until 2012, the Newtownards Spectator).

It switched from broadsheet to tabloid format in June 2011.

It comes out on Thursdays. It boasts that it’s appeared every week since its foundations; it shifts to an alternative publication day if Thursday is a public holiday.
