Ulster Herald

The Ulster Herald (generally known locally simply as “the Herald“) is a weekly tabloid newspaper published in Omagh and sold in County Tyrone, particularly around Omagh, as well as parts of Derry and Fermanagh.

It was founded in 1901 as a broadsheet, The Ulster Herald and Provincial Advertiser, but assumed its present shorter title in 2001 and switched to “compact” (ie tabloid) format in 2006.

It’s owned by the North-West News Group and is the lead title of a group of newspapers that also includes the Tyrone Herald and the Strabane Chronicle.

It comes out on Thursdays. An e-edition’s also available online by (paid) subscription.
