Edinburgh Evening News
The Edinburgh Evening News is a tabloid newspaper published every evening from Monday to Saturday and distributed for sale within the city of Edinburgh and in the Lothian, Fife and Scottish Borders regions of Scotland; as of 2009 it was the best-selling daily title in Edinburgh. Perhaps surprisingly, given the size of its distribution area, there are no sub-editions.
It was founded in May 1873. It’s published by The Scotsman Publications (part of major regional and local newspaper publishers Johnston Press since 2005), who by remarkable coincidence also publish The Scotsman (with which the Evening News shares a website, along with Scotland on Sunday).
In 1963 it absorbed rival publication The Evening Dispatch, founded in 1886 as the Edinburgh Evening Dispatch, and subsequently bore the title Edinburgh Evening News and Dispatch until 1967, when it was renamed first The Evening News and Dispatch and then simply the Evening News. It adopted its present title in 1995, reverted to being the Evening News in 2006 and then switched back again in 2009.
