Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser
The Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser (known locally as “The Squeak”) is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the Eskdale area in eastern Dumfriesshire and Liddesdale in the south-western Scottish Borders, including the towns of Langholm, Newcastleton and Canonbie.
It was founded in 1848 by newsagent and bookseller Thomas Rome and sold for 1d, making it the first penny newspaper in Scotland. It’s now published by the Carlisle-based CN Group from editorial offices in Langholm.
It comes out on Thursdays.
